Young Rail Professionals celebrate achievements in UK Rail

Last night, over 500 rail professionals attended Young Rail Professionals’ (YRP) Annual Dinner & Awards, sponsored by CPC. It is one of the most popular events in the UK Rail calendar for those at the start of their careers in rail.

The event took place at The Brewery, the iconic Grade II listed former Whitbread brewery, in London, and featured a keynote speech from the DfT’s Polly Payne. As Director General for Rail Group, Polly gave an insightful overview of what her role entailed; the need for ever greater diversity; and the pivotal rail schemes that are driving our network over the next few years, including InterCity Express, Thameslink and Crossrail programmes.

It was also a special night for YRP as it celebrated its 10th Anniversary with all the founding members in attendance. Now, boasting over 5,500 members and with pivotal collaborations with buyers, suppliers and policy makers within the UK rail industry, YRP’s success is a product of the vision, drive commitment and hard work of its committee members and regional branch leaders.

The Awards ceremony completed the evening to recognise those that fully embrace the ethos and values of YRP. And the winners were:

• Young Rail Professional of 2019 – Askin Alpinar, Telent
• YRP Apprentice of the Year – Babatunde Olorunsogo, Colas Rail
• YRP Mentor of the Year – Kirsty Towell, Colas Rail

Steve Mole, Managing Partner, CPC said “This event is the highlight of my year, as its charged with so much energy, enthusiasm and expectation. I cannot think of a more worthy organisation to sponsor in the rail industry, as YRP continues to promote, develop and inspire the next generation of rail professionals”
