Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

The electrification of road vehicles is regarded as a crucial component in the UK meeting it’s CO2 reduction targets, as set out in the Climate Change Act (2008).

To achieve this, the Department for Transport (DfT) aims to establish a comprehensive Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure network with UK drivers being able to easily locate and access EV charge points.

Network Rail (NR) has made a commitment to the DfT to transition 100% of their cars and van fleet (excluding HGVs) to a Zero Emissions Vehicles fleet by December 2027. 

We are assisting in the installation of EV charging infrastructure across Network Rail (NR). This partnership is a part of both NR’s Road Fleet Transformation Programme and the Managed Station Car Park Project.

We led one of NR’s critical workstreams that involved the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charge points within key NR managed stations.

The project utilised NR’s PACE governance methodology, leading and managing the delivery of mandatory PACE products and providing visibility to the regional RAM community.

We are also supporting the wider fleet transition programme to include NR depots.

As we celebrate decarbonising transport week (4-8 March 2024), we’ve highlighted the ways we’re delivering carbon reduction through this project:

  • 147 x Feasibility Studies completed
  • 53 x Designs developed and approved
  • 880 x Electric Vehicle charging points installed and commissioned
