Proton Beam Therapy
The vision for this specialist cancer treatment facility was to work with the Department of Health to bring the UK’s first high energy proton beam therapy service to Manchester. CPC was asked to prepare a business case for a Proton Therapy Unit, and to provide practical support around the strategic design and construction elements of the state of the art facility.
CPC’s business change team developed and and coordinated a 5 case model (HM Treasury compliant) Outline Business Case (OBC) to support the proposed investment and work with the Executive team to further develop the Trust’s strategy around Proton Therapy.
We engaged with, managed and provided feedback to stakeholders including the Department of Health, HM Treasury and NHS Estates, and co-ordinated the information required for the various Gateway reviews. A Programme Management Office (PMO) was established, specifically to deal with issues such as communications planning, benefits realisation and risk management; and the facilitation of all working groups.

The OBC was successful and enabled the next phase of work to begin around procurement, service development and design with a view to a ‘go live’ date for Proton Therapy services in 2018.
