Innovation Building & Amenities

This purpose built ‘amenities’ building was designed to accommodate communal facilities to serve the University of Oxford’s Old Road Campus.

The development include a multi-storey car park, distribution centre, production kitchen and a new BioEscalator, which now serves as a hub for the commercialisation of bioscience and medical research and innovation in Oxford.

Consisting of two buildings in an ‘L-shaped’ design, the facility was designed to provide communal space for networking, meetings, hot-desking and shared laboratory space for those interested in the commercialisation of medical and bioscience research through interaction and collaboration with the bioscience industry.

The facilities include a delivery distribution centre for the entire campus, research laboratory rooms, office space, testing laboratories and commercial space for Nova Nordisk, a global healthcare organisation in the private sector.

CPC was been appointed to provide project management services to support the client’s investment in this facility the region of £59m. One of the main successes was the incorporation of a new end user half way through the design phase which required significant re-design to ensure their requirements were met. The overall appointment was then extended to provide laboratory facilities within the basement.

Bio Escalator Labs University of Oxford

The project was completed in August 2018, and has enabled the University to respond to the needs expressed by academic researchers and bioscience companies wanting to engage with the University, as it caters for academics, researchers and has commercial space for Nova Nordisk, a global healthcare organisation in the private sector.

The aim of the facility is to help more innovative ideas to move out of the lab and into the clinic and in doing so to realise the potential of the world-class research and expertise in Oxford.
