IMechE and YRP join forces for Munich Study Tour
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Young Members Railway Division and the Young Rail Professionals (YRP) joined forces in April, and for the second year running, to offer an international technical tour for its members.
Following the success of its inaugural event in the Netherlands last year, the 2019 Technical Tour centred around the City of Munich in Bavaria. Over 45 delegates attended the 3-day event, which included presentations from Gatwick Fire & Rescue, Heathrow Express and the Munich Stammstrecke 2 line (the equivalent to the UK’s Crossrail).
This was followed by a private tour of the MVG museum (Munich’s equivalent of TfL), Siemen’s Rail Service Centre at Allach, which includes their cyber-security operations centre, and the DB Netz (Deutsche Bahn) Operations Centre.
Ben Vallely, Principal Consultant, CPC Systems and Vice Chair, IMechE Young Members Board, said “It has been a massive challenge to organise this event, but an incredibly rewarding experience to gain insight into the rail industry in Germany and to network with other professionals, from a range of disciplines, that are building their careers in the rail industry”.
Paul Case, CPC Project Manager and former National Chair of YRP said “The technical tour has proved to be a popular and hugely successful event. YRP are now working with the IMechE to include more Young Member groups from the rail industry in order to create a series of similar events over the next five years”.
