The future of rail is brought together at the YRP Dinner
Over 350 guests celebrated the future of the rail industry at a gala dinner at the iconic Roundhouse in Derby last Friday, hosted by the Young Rail Professionals (YRP).
Some of the highlights included a look back at Rail Week, which provided rail professionals and students with a unique insight into the rail industry, through a series of seminars, presentations, ideathons and site visits.
The YRP’s new Chair, Michael Charteris spoke about the YRP’s vision to collaborate ever closer with our European partners to learn lessons about our different rail experiences to enrich and improve UK rail.
The keynote speaker, John Smith, MD of GB Railfreight, encouraged guests to think more widely about the opportunities available to them in rail, particularly in freight, as it exposes the rail industry to new sectors, and to expand their horizons to achieve success, whilst managing technical, financial and commercial risks.
Awards were presented to Dr Andy Roberts from SNC-Lavalin for his exceptional mentoring; Cameron Shaw from Abellio ScotRail for Apprentice of Year, demonstrating an inspirational drive to succeed; and Zak Shayler from Transport for London for his outstanding contribution to the rail industry.
During the evening, the YRP was fundraising for its nominated charity, Railway Children. Over £2,000 was donated on the night, and will support the Charity to get vulnerable children off the streets across the UK, India and East Africa.
Steve Mole, CPC’s Managing Partner said: “We are proud to be the exclusive sponsor for YRP’s annual dinner, judging the YRP awards and bringing our valued clients and key staff to one of UK Rail’s event highlights, for a 6th consecutive year. The YRP goes from strength to strength, supporting young talent in the rail industry. We are delighted that so many of our staff are active members and are committed to developing their careers in rail project management.”
