The Hayward Gallery is a contemporary arts venue in London and one of the few remaining buildings of the sixties brutalist architecture style.
Elements of the building’s structure and infrastructure were reaching the end of their serviceable lives and required a programme of refurbishment.
CPC was appointed to deliver project management, quantity surveying and CDM Coordinator services. We identified the areas that requirement renewal and replacement and prioritised and planned a suitable programme of works within the available funding streams.
We were responsible for determining feasibility, taking the project through the design and procurement phases and subsequently managing its delivery on site.
We provided this multi-faceted client with a single point of responsibility for all project issues. In addition, CPC developed a delivery strategy that allowed for sporadic elements of this refurbishment project to be collated, assessed for feasibility, appropriately managed and phased in a way that promoted financial economies of scale as well as offering significant advantages in terms of buildability, health and safety and time efficiencies.
The project was delivered well within cost and time parameters agreed at commencement and enabled the Southbank Centre to realise its strategic project goal of ensuring that visitors to the gallery were able to appreciate artworks under the best possible conditions.
"We provided project management, quantity surveying and CDM co-ordination to deliver a refurbishment programme at one of London’s most important spaces for displaying contemporary art"
