The Award recognizes projects that place ‘value’ for owners and users as the key driver in both design and construction, alongside effective knowledge management, to deliver lessons effectively.

The judging panel included representatives from Heathrow Airport Limited, Sustainable Direction Limited, Cheesmur Building Contractors and Historic Royal Palaces.

The £607m Bank project pioneered the Innovative Contractor Engagement (ICE) process to ensure all the best ideas from the supply chain during bidding were rewarded, developed and implemented on the project – which ultimately improved the Benefits Cost Ratio from 2.4:1 at design stage to 3.5:1 at contract award and reduced design costs by over £100m.

The project was able to demonstrate a ‘Best for Bank’ ethos, with increased transparency and joint decision making, to deliver mutual benefits and total collaboration.

The Constructing Excellence judging panel commented: “It is the project’s team approach of putting the stations users and operators’ interests front and centre of every decision that makes this an outstanding beacon of best practice. Shared behaviours and an integrated management structure provide transparency so that benefit and risk are always considered in the light of what is ‘Best for Bank’.”

Andy Swift, LU’s Programme Manager at Bank and CPC Partner said: “I am so proud to be part of the team that are delivering value and change at Bank station, using pioneering processes and innovative project management techniques to deliver benefits for all stakeholders”.
