Young Oncology Unit opens at The Christie

A new £12m cancer treatment unit was officially opened today by local football stars including Wayne Rooney. This state-of the-art Young Oncology Unit (YOU) includes 31 ensuite rooms, a gym, a music room and relaxation areas over three storeys.
CPC is leading The Christie NHS's Capital Programme Management Office (CPMO) and the completion of the YOU is a key milestone in delivering a £250m capital investment on behalf of the this specialist cancer care Trust.
The Young Oncology Unit has been purpose built to meet the needs of young patients undergoing cancer treatment, and to ensure that their stay will be as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
In June, the Palatine Treatment Centre, which comprises both the young oncology unit and haematology & transport suites, will open to patients to become of the world’s leading centres for the care of teenagers and young adults with cancer.
Dr Mike Dennis, director of the haematology and transplant unit at The Christie, said: "We want to able to deliver the best possible care for our patients and now we have a first-class environment which reflects that ambition."
