City University students invite CPC to lecture
18 March 2014
Steve Lee, CPC’s Head of Environment guest lectured to students at City University today on the real story behind developing and delivering flood defences in the UK.
The students are currently undertaking Masters Degrees in Construction Management and Steve was able to present a history of early flood risk management and how increases in housing pressures have had a significant impact on flood plain limits and risks in the UK.
Discussions centred on the reactive nature of flood defence funding and the complex and lengthy process to deliver the schemes. Steve talked to the students about his involvement in schemes from the refurbishment of the Thames Barrier to a new £18.6m new flood alleviation scheme in Oxfordshire.
Professor Speare at City University’s School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences said: “Our Construction Management students greatly appreciated Steve’s excellent presentation. It was a great pleasure to sit and listen to a former student share his experiences and demonstrate what our students can achieve following university”.
CPC’s Steve Lee said “It was a delight to have the opportunity to present to City’s construction management students and be back to the university, from which I graduated almost 15 years ago. I look forward to building on the relationship between CPC and the University in the near future”.
